The sunniest cities in the U.S. tend to be in the southwest because of geographical factors. On average, these areas get less rain and the sky is cloud-free for many days of the year. These cities are also closer to the equator, so the sun feels warmer and is visible for more time each day. Read on to learn about five of the sunniest cities in the United States, and arguably cities that have the best weather in the USA.

What is the Best Weather in The USA?

Weather on the American continent covers a wide range of temperatures. Depending on where you live, you can experience a cool fall, snowstorms or sunshine all year round. Although everyone has a different definition of “perfect weather,” people respond well to sunshine. Spending time in the sun creates vitamin D and can improve your physical and mental health.

1. Yuma, Arizona

According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Yuma is the sunniest city in the United States. It’s located on the Colorado River, close to the border of southern California and Mexico. Temperatures range from over 100 degrees during the summer to 60-70 degrees in the winter. The humidity is low and the average rainfall is four inches a year.

Yuma is a small city with a quiet atmosphere – if you’re looking for a big-city feel, you might want to look elsewhere. It’s mostly occupied by military families and farmers. The cost of living is low for the national average and homes are very affordable. Fun activities in Yuma include dune riding and swimming.

2. Redding, California

Redding ranks as the sunniest city in California and it’s more affordable than many other cities in the state. This city is located in the northern part of the state, about 100 miles from the coast. Unlike Yuma, Redding gets rain and has beautiful waterfalls you can visit. Annual temperatures range between 40-60 degrees in the winter and 90-100s in the summer.

This city has a thriving economy and is perfect for families, young professionals and retirees. It has a low cost of living and an excellent sense of community. There are plenty of fun things to do in the area, including outdoor activities like hiking, kayaking and skiing. Although California is viewed as a liberal state, the prevailing values in Redding are conservative.

3. Las Vegas, Nevada

Las Vegas is another one of the cities with the best weather in the USA. Temperatures range between 90-110 degrees during the summer but cool down to 50-60 degrees at the height of winter. The average annual rainfall for this city is only 4.17 inches. When moisture moves in from the ocean, the city’s usually dry heat can become humid.

Although taxes are low in Nevada, the cost of living for this city is high compared to the national average. In 2021, the population of Las Vegas exceeded 600,000 people, many of which were young professionals. However, finding a job may be challenging – the economy is still struggling to recover from extensive shutdowns from COVID-19. Unlike Redding, Las Vegas is more liberal than conservative.

Follow the Sun

If you’re in love with sunshine and heat, consider one of these three U.S. cities for your next move. According to climatic data, they’re ranked as three of the sunniest, or thee places with best weather in USA. Each city differs in annual rainfall and humidity – Redding, CA, is the best place to move to if you’d like rain to complement the sun.

Don’t forget to consider other factors, including the cost of living, job opportunities and the demographic of each city. Think about how active you want to be and whether the warm climate in these three cities would be too hot for you. Yuma, Redding and Las Vegas are all wonderful places to live if you love sunshine and warm weather.
